Signals new market for Bruegger's; New local franchise
Burlington, Vt. (May 18, 2006) - As it continues to grow nationally, Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. today announced that its fresh bakery-cafè experience will expand to Alaska, a new market for the growing chain. The company signed an agreement on April 20th with a new franchise group to develop a total of five new Bruegger's bakery-cafes in Anchorage and Fairbanks by 2010.
Alaska Bagel Enterprises, led by Audrey Ranstead, plans to opens its first Bruegger's bakery-cafè in late summer, early fall 2006. The group also is targeting 2010 as a projected completion date for all five Bruegger's units. The first unit will be built in Fairbanks and site selection for additional units is currently underway.
"Signing the Alaska Bagel Enterprises franchise group demonstrates continued growth in our franchise program," said Bruegger's CEO James Greco. "Alaska Bagel's experience and understanding of the local market are key assets to our success in Alaska. We are looking forward to developing this wonderful new market and becoming a part of the Anchorage and Fairbanks communities."
"It's exciting to develop the first Bruegger's in Alaska," added Audrey Ranstead, Alaska Bagel Enterprises, Inc. "Alaskans are in for a real treat with Bruegger's authentic bagels. We are looking forward to establishing Bruegger's as a leader in the fast-casual dining segment in Alaska."
Bruegger's is best known for its authentic, boiled and baked bagels that are baked daily and are made from fresh dough. Kettle boiled first, Bruegger's bagels are baked on a stone-hearth to give them an authentic crunchy crust on the outside and a dense, chewy texture on the inside. Most Bruegger's locations feature viewing areas where guests can see how the bagels are made.
Bruegger's recently completed a relaunch of its brand with newly designed bakeries and an expanded menu offering guests more dining options. Based on its market analysis, Bruegger's forecasts the development of approximately 70 new Bruegger's bakeries between 2006 and year-end 2007, consisting of approximately 20 new company-owned locations and approximately 50 new franchised locations. Bruegger's is currently seeking qualified franchise partners in select U.S. markets.
In addition to fresh, hot bagels Bruegger's features an expanded menu of healthy dining choices that includes hand-crafted, fresh-tossed salads, whole wheat wraps, hearty soups, sandwiches, desserts and unique coffee blends, including a daily Fair Trade blend. Bruegger's operates 242 bakeries in 17 states, with approximately 146 company-owned units and 96 franchised units.
