Bruegger’s Expands in Southern Connecticut

(BURLINGTON, VT.) – Five Star Equity Partners led by David Katz celebrated the grand opening of Connecticut’s 11th Bruegger’s bakery-cafe on Monday, November 10 at 263 Boston Post Rd. Orange, Conn.  

Katz, a native of Cheshire, Conn., graduated from Platt High School and the Center for Culinary Arts. His background in the culinary arts led him to hone his skills in several high-end restaurant kitchens in New Haven before deciding to try his hand at management. In 2005, he started as an assistant manager trainee with Bruegger’s and after only four weeks was named general manager. In 2007, after seeing his drive for success and quick rise within the company, four of the entrepreneur’s relatives approached him about owning a Bruegger’s franchise. The group became Five Star Equity Partners.

“We plan to create the same atmosphere and delicious food that drew me to Bruegger’s in our bakeries,” said Katz. “Bruegger’s wholesome menu and cozy atmosphere is a perfect fit for up-and-coming areas in southern Connecticut.”

“We’re very excited about our expansion into this part of Connecticut,” Bruegger’s CEO Jim Greco said. “We have a reputation here for delivering delicious, quality food at a value and most importantly for providing personal service that our guests know and appreciate.”

Approximately 98 of Bruegger’s 283 locations are franchisee-owned.  The Boston Road location, the largest in Connecticut in square footage, is equipped with a high definition plasma television and the glass enclosed kettle and oven area gives guests an opportunity to view Bruegger’s authentic bagel-baking process. The bakery also offers free Wi-fi, seats 60 guests and employs 20 team members. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Five Star Equity Partners plans to develop three new Bruegger’s in the southern Connecticut area over the next several years.

Bruegger's kettle-boils and bakes bagels every day, throughout the day, to give the bagels an authentic crunchy crust on the outside and a dense, chewy texture on the inside. In addition to fresh, hot bagels, Bruegger's offers an extensive menu that includes fresh-tossed salads, made-to-order sandwiches and unique coffee blends, including a daily Fair Trade CertifiedTM blend.
